The course combines the practical and theoretical teachings of authentic Hatha Yoga– an energy-based tantric form of Yoga focusing on strengthening the mind. Key teachings include purification techniques from Kriya YogaLaya Yoga initiations, the principles of yama and niyama, an introduction to Karma and Nidra Yoga, exploration of chakra science, practice of meditation techniques stemming from the ancient yogic tradition and examination of the various stages and branches of the Yoga system.

As a student you will develop a thorough understanding of yogic philosophy and spirituality.

Tantra Yoga is an essential component in the curriculum of the Tantric Yogi Path, which Somananda Tantra School offers. This Level 1 course constitutes the first steps in this highly spiritual Yoga program and comprises the first 3 weeks of our 260-hour Yoga Teacher Training Course.

Our Tantra Yoga Level 1 course is open to anyone, regardless of previous experience, age or physical fitness. Those new to Yoga will be able to follow the teachings with ease and excitement, while more experienced students will benefit from abundant opportunities to deepen their knowledge and personal practice.

Yoga is often purely associated with physical and gymnastic-types of practices. However, in this course you will discover this ancient practice transcends this and dives deeply into the infinite world of spiritual evolution.

Course Schedule

Day 1 (19 August 2018): Arrival and welcome in Rishikesh Valley

We eagerly await your arrival to the beautiful venue in Rishikesh. Our welcome dinner begins at 19:00, but you may choose to arrive anytime from 14:00 onward. Instructions on how to make your way from Delhi to Rishikesh and how to reach the retreat venue once in Rishikesh will be sent via email prior to your arrival.

Days 2-21 (20 August – 8 September 2018): Teachings and practice

On the 2nd day the teachings commence. You will be studying and practicing Yoga for approximately seven hours daily. Our teaching day starts at 7:30 and runs until 20:30, with several breaks organized throughout the day.

This Yoga retreat includes two Yoga sessions each day, 6 days per week, as well as meditation practices, lectures and other teachings. Sundays are allocated for rest and rejuvenation and are free days.

Example of daily schedule (if changes can occur they will be announced during the course):

Day 22 (9 September 2018): Final ceremony and conclusion

On the final day, we begin with breakfast at 9:00. The Final Ceremony and closing words will commence at 10:00. Your last day with us will finish with lunch at 14:00 and latest departure will be at 15:00.

This course is conducted in English. To gain the most from your experience, before applying please be sure that your language proficiency is good enough to follow lectures and that you are more of less fluent in English.

FAQ

This is my first course with you school. Can I join this course regardless?

Of course! Our Tantra Yoga program is an essential component of the Tantric Yogi Path, which Somananda Tantra School offers. Tantra Yoga Level 1 is the first element in this highly spiritual Yoga program and is a prerequisite for joining subsequent and higher Yoga levels within our curriculum. For full clarity on the necessary stages and steps of the Tantric Yogi Path please see the outline of our curriculum.

The course is designed for everyone regardless of age, physical ability, or previous experience with Yoga.

What types of Yoga will I be studying and practicing?

Our Tantra Yoga modules include teachings from various tantric branches of Yoga such as Hatha, Laya, Kundalini and others. Additionally, teachings from other Yoga branches are also included such as Kriya, Nidra and Karma.

We are offering a comprehensive, energy-based program which includes strengthening mental concentration and spiritual initiation.

How many hours of Yoga and meditation will be practiced daily?

This can vary. Generally, each day consists of 3-4 hours of asana or Yoga practice, 1-2 hours of meditation and 1-3 hours of theoretical teachings. Occasional supplemental satsangs, or spiritual discourse/lectures, will be offered in the evenings.

On average, a full day will be between 7-8 hours of teaching and practice, with many breaks organized throughout the day for rest and revitalization.

Do I need to bring my own Yoga mat?

Yes your own Yoga mat is always required. All retreat participants will receive an email detailing the guidelines on how to prepare and what to bring with them to the course.

Retreat Guidelines

  • Have an open mind to spiritual teachings and a willingness to learn and explore authentic knowledge
  • Arrive on time to each class and teaching
  • No smoking, alcohol or recreational drugs during the retreat
  • We recommend avoiding phone and internet usage completely during the retreat. However, the maximum usage time is restricted to 1 hour per day during the lunch break.

This course includes intense study and practice of the yogic teachings. Please realistically evaluate yourself before applying. By your application you are indicating that you are ready to meet the demands of the course in terms of your time and energy.
