The Art of Dying

30 March – 1 April 2018
Edinburgh, Scotland

(This is a Curriculum Additional Teachings course)

The spiritual preparation for death – one of life’s greatest passages yet a fundamentally neglected aspect of existence – is addressed frontally by these very rare teachings. The Art of Dying synthesizes modern insights into death as a biological phenomenon with the study of consciousness and great metaphysical teachings that highlight the evolutionary significance of death – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for spiritual liberation.

The moment of death is extraordinarily valuable from a spiritual standpoint; in short, this finale of human experience actually provides us with a chance at enlightenment. Since death is inevitable (and sometimes a surprise) for all of us, Yoga implores us to prepare for it rather than avoid it, to confront it and become ready to make the most of this moment instead of finding ourselves helplessly caught off-guard.

FAQ

Is this workshop suited for a total beginner in spirituality?

Absolutely. Both beginners and experienced spiritual practitioners alike will gain a tremendous understanding of death and the confidence to deal with this subject in practical dimensions.

Does this have anything to do with assisted suicide?

No. This workshop is entirely focused on a spiritual approach to the natural occurrence of death.

Will the teachings conflict with my religious background?

The workshop is meant to give clarity and direction about the topic of death according to the Tibetan teachings. On the surface, if you have a traditional religious background, you may perceive conflicts in the terminology or beliefs presented. However, you will also learn that in fact many spiritual and religious traditions have similar, if not the same, teachings about the process of death; it is often the case that simply different words are applied for the same concepts. We would invite you to keep an open mind and take from the teachings what is useful for you.

Do I need to bring my own Yoga mat?

All registered participants will receive an email in advance providing event guidelines and suggestions as well as any needed items to bring with you.

More about this unique teaching

The Art of Dying Workshop helps train individuals to eliminate fears, recognize and understand the process of death, let go of misconceptions, and – through this exclusive yogic training – to transform this time of great uncertainty into a beneficial spiritual opportunity.

One of the greatest ambitions of these teachings is to train participants not only to meet their own deaths fearlessly and with wisdom, but also to facilitate a more spiritual fate for others – helping loved ones, for example, to pass more happily, more consciously, and with more dignity.

Let these teachings help you surpass your fears and adopt a beneficial attitude toward death, bringing this subject from ignorance into the light of knowledge and hope in your own personal life.

  • “Experiencing the closeness of death gave me incredible energy; it somehow made everything clear what to do with my life. Coming to the course I had a lits of questions. As they got answered already during the first morning session, I understood how superficial they were. My father is dying- before the course I avoided thinking about his death, now I have the knowledge on how to help and support both him and myself.”

    Katri
  • “The course changed my understanding of life and the ending of it as well as the significance of religious traditions. The course also gave my yoga practice a deeper content and perspective. I came to the understanding, that death is much more than I what I had previously thought and that I am not helpless in facing it.”

    Ulle
  • “The course changed the focus of subject matter – although I didn't doubt before that death is a serious topic, I had no idea how important every living moment is and how each moment is connected to the next - until we reach the last moment in this chain.”

    Kristina
  • “The course gave me courage and self-confidence on how to help those close to me after death.”
